Red Pears and Three Apples

Red Pears

Red Pears and Three  Apples are currently in the Still Life show at the Federation of Canadian Artists Granville Island gallery.  Both paintings are acrylic on board.   The pears in Red Pears are sitting on a cloth with an A in the corner; the A stands for Arnott, my favorite grandmother's birth name.

Sexual Attractions

Sexual Attractons has just been in the Blossums show at the Federation Gallery on Granville Island.   I painted it first as a 6 x 6 acrylic and then had fun painting a bigger version in watercolour.  This is a Phalaenopsis orchid that I was given and it bloomed for a very long time - the perfect subject.

In Hand

This painting was created from a dramatic piece of public sculpture that I saw in Paris in March.

Love Lies Bleeding

Another plant I love - Amaranth can even be good eating.  I'm not sure if I'm finished with this painting yet..but I think I am.  Again, it was the backlit exuberant bloom and lime green leaves that caught my eye.

Green-winged Teal

I spotted these Green-winged Teal on a walk around Port Moody Inlet.  I was captivated by the pattern of the water against their small elegant bodies.  This painting was accepted into the FCA's upcoming Canvas Unbound show, from May 18th - 30th, 2010.

Native Mock Orange

This painting was in the Federation of Canadian Artists show 'Blossoms'  last month, titled  Native Mock Orange.  I loved the way the light was glowing through the wonderfully scented flowers when it bloomed in my garden last year.  I tried to capture this feeling.
